San Diego Deportation: ICE Internal Emails Reveal Intent to Increase Deportations!!

AILA recently shared an internal email communication between ICE and other agencies. The title of the attachment in the email is: “Prospective Criminal Apprehension Initiative”. The focus of course is on criminals, but more so, the need to meet certain numbers.

Deportation numbers show that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency is making good on its promise to focus on the more serious offenders in the undocumented immigrant population.

In fiscal year 2012, ICE reports that 409,849 individuals were removed from the country and about 55 percent of them had been convicted of felonies or misdemeanors. That is nearly double the number of criminals removed in 2008. Last year, ICE deported 1,215 undocumented immigrants who had been convicted of homicide.

That still means many non-criminal undocumented immigrants are being deported, the agency is moving in the right direction, but must be more aware when non criminals are involved. Especially cases where families are being separated and no criminal issues are at stake.

Let us know what you think of this trend.
